Moicano v Nolan review: seven minutes of control, nine strikes landed

Tom Nolan came in 41st on our lightweight board, spent most of two rounds with Renato Moicano on his back, and still scored 94.

Tom Nolan came into Saturday 41st on our lightweight board. Renato Moicano was 12th. Nolan's toughest UFC opponent before that was Fares Ziam, 19th going in, so this was the biggest step up of his career. For a round and a half it looked like one.

Moicano took him down in the first, took his back and locked on a body triangle. He did it again in the second. Over the fight he had 7:17 of control to Nolan's 1:10.

What he didn't do was hurt him. Moicano landed nine significant strikes all night. Nolan landed 69, got on top in the third and stopped him at 1:28 of the round.

We score it 94–6 to Nolan. Our score credits a winner for the parts of the fight he won and doesn't take anything off for the parts he lost, so Moicano's control time doesn't count against him. A third-round stoppage with a 60-strike margin is about as clear as a win gets on our scale.

How far he climbs shows when the weekly update runs.

Six of the 12 wins on the card were dominant (85 or more). The highest score of the night was Lucia Szabova over Tainara Lisboa, 96–4, a third-round TKO after 9:03 of control. The closest was Dakota Hope's split decision over Francis Marshall, 75–25.
